Toffee Apple Flapjacks recipe
These are a deliciously different twist on some very traditional flavours. They're also very pretty, so wrap them up in cellophane and ribbon and give them away as Christmas presents.
Ingredients:
400g rolled oats
200g butter
50g sugar
150g ready-made toffees
3 apples
3 tbsp. golden syrup
2 tbsp. black treacle
2 tbsp. full fat milk
1 lemon
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 190C/gas mark 5.
2. Line and grease a 25cm square baking tin.
3. Chop and core the apples. Place them in a saucepan with the lemon juice from the lemon. Simmer them for 7 minutes. Once cooked, mash them with a fork. Don't use a blender or they'll go too soggy.
4. Heat the butter, sugar, syrup and treacle together until melted. Stir in the oats.
5. Press half of the oat mixture into the tin and press down well. Spread the apple mixture over the top of the oats. Add the rest of the oat mixture and spread out over the apples. Put this into the oven for 25 minutes.
6. It's now time to make the toffee mixture. Heat the toffees with the milk until smooth and liquid.
7. Once the flapjacks are out of the oven, drizzle the toffee sauce over them and leave to set.
Serve with loads of thick whipped cream.
